Accidents Will Happen

So it's been a hard week. Jim got caught in a pile-up on the BQE last Saturday morning on his way to his radio show -- nine to 12 cars, depending on whom you ask, all started by an asshole who was speeding on a cold, icy night and hit two cars; everybody behind tried to stop, couldn't, and there it was. Jim came out of it with a badly sprained ankle and a knee that's going to need work; I'm grateful it wasn't worse. My car was declared a total loss by the insurance company -- it really wasn't, technically, but it would have cost 82 percent of the resale value to repair it, and at 75 percent, they give it up as a bad investment.

So they're sending me a check, and I'm going to use that toward a new car. I suppose it will be nice having a new car, but still, I'd rather have had the old one, and not have had this happen at all.
