Thinking about phones
Nov. 28th, 2007 10:01 pmRight now, Jim and I both use cell phones that are so out of date that I'm ashamed to use mine in front of tech vendors. Our Verizon Wireless contract is up in the beginning of February (we had to up our minutes when Jim was spending a lot of time with his mom in the hospital, and so they added several months on to our contracts), and I think I want something at least reasonably neat.
We're seriously considering abandoning the major carriers and trying Helio, a company that piggybacks on the Sprint network, and has an amazingly simple plan where you get 1000 minutes, plus all the messaging, Web surfing, e-mailing, etc. that you want for about $85 a month (a second line in a family plan adds $35). That's a lot easier than trying to figure out Verizon's very complex series of adds-ons -- and the Ocean, their upper-end phone, is sorta neat (although not quite a smartphone).
So -- thinking about it.
